eLearn System Outage

UPDATE: Service Restored: Our Managed Hosting Engineers have corrected the problem and have restored the service to the eLearn system at 5:00 p.m. PDT.

We are currently experiencing technical difficulties with the eLearn server.  As of 4:10pm all requests to the server have been timing out.  We have contacted Blackboard Managed Hosting and they are currently working on the situation.  Instructors have also been notified of the outage.

We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.

eLearn Connection Problems

The eLearn system has been experiencing brief, intermittent service interruptions throughout the weekend. This means that eLearn users have been logged out of eLearn in the midst of their work, including tests, quizzes and other eLearn tasks. Please take this issue into consideration when communicating with students. This service interruption is also affecting the MyChemeketa and Outlook systems. IT is currently working to determine the source of the problem and solution. We will keep you notified of progress.

Scheduled service interruption

On Friday, March 27th, from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm, electricians will be working on Chemeketa's power infrastructure. The following systems will be unavailable during this time:

  • eLearn
  • Banner (including portal services from My Chemeketa)
  • Online student services (learning.chemeketa.edu, occdl.chemeketa.edu)
  • Online library services

The work will be focused on:

1. Completing the email purging change by significantly reducing the size of our email storage now that the high volume of stored messages has been reduced. This will allow for faster recovery in case of catastrophic failure.

2. Repair and upgrade our core switch which connects Chemeketa to the outside world and maintains quality communications between systems on campus. This is required to manage our ever increasing network usage and prepares for current projects and future service requirements.

3. Consolidation of systems in our data center to address current power capacity problems and provide for expansion.

4. Relocate upgraded switch in Building 2 to complete the Building 2 remodel.  Currently there is no additional capacity available to complete the remodel.

WebBoard and Chemeketa Online sites down on Saturday 9-1

A restart of college network services caused a temporary outage of the WebBoard and Chemeketa Online servers during the mid part of Saturday. Restarting the IIS web server at 4:10 PM brought these sites back online. Campus Edition (Elearn) and the NewTerra Faculty site were not affected.

All Chemeketa sites intermittent on Sunday

Late Sunday afternoon and evening, Aug. 26, there were periods where many, if not all, Chemeketa web sites were unavailable. This was a result of action taken by IT and Facilities personnel to avert a possbile outage of the server room environmental system. By 9 PM several web sites were responding again. [ADDENDUM] It was shortly after 8 AM Monday morning when WebBoard came back up along with Sharepoint (on which it relies). Network drives were restored around 9:30 AM.
