Hi, my name is Gary Kuhn. I am the creator of Speech 285, Computer Mediated Communication. It's a great class in terms of you get a chance to learn about interpersonal communication in a computer mediated environment. Many students communicate via text, chat, telephone, etc. but they've never really studied or analyzed the dynamics behind that type of communication. In this course you learn about interpersonal communication, you'll learn about group communication, and you'll learn about how we communicate use computer mediated channels. One great part about this course is that we do meet in a chat room so you get to chat with your fellow students, have a sense of community. We also go to Second Life and have a virtual meeting where you get to be an avatar and have an opportunity to explore the virtual world as you communicate with your fellow students and with your instructor. This course is a great course for those students who want to learn more about computer mediated communication and how we communicate using mediated methodologies. I hope to see you in the class. It's an opportunity for you to learn more about how we communicate in this new world with high-tech technology and using mediated methods. Thanks.
