Come and discover--or rediscover--J.R.R. Tolkien's monumental achievement. Together, we'll not only deepen our appreciation and enjoyment of this masterpiece of 20th century English literature: we'll also learn more about the man who created it, examine its origins and precursors in ancient European epic poetry, discover its spiritual underpinnings and symbolism, and explore its mythic elements. Everyone is welcome, from devoted fans who've read the book many times to newcomers who are just curious to begin their exploration of Middle Earth.

a Who, but you wrote a book: through exercises, reading great children's books, and online workshopping, students in this class will develop short creative writing projects for children and young adult readers, ages 4-14. Readings include classic children's books and The Graveyard Book by Nail Gaiman--all leading towards the final portfolio, a project of your choice for young readers.
