Introduction to American Literature Focuses on the literature of the 20th Century, with attention given to the eras and events of the World Wars, Civil Rights, labor movements, and political parties. Addresses American-European interconnections, modernism, the decade of the twenties (including Harlem Renaissance), the Depression, post-World War II issues and realities, the Sixties, environmentalism, post-modern and contemporary life, multiculturalism and global perspectives. Recognizes literary works as products of history as well as culture and addresses the complexity and variety of voices and perspectives that make up American Literature.
