Introduction to Music Literature
Focus will be on the 18th and 19th centuries. Reading and study will require using the whole text for reference and comparisons. Highlights of music from this period include late Beethoven, his Ninth Symphony, a Far East for the future; the growth of the orchestra and the music written for it; the emergence of the piano as an important musical and sociological factor; the new dimensions of song and opera.
