| Course Description: |
An exploration of the relationships between the law, ethics and bioethics and the health care professional. This is an interactive class using case studies, independent and group projects, and personal reflection to identify common legal and ethical problems. |
| Performance Based Learner Outcomes: |
Upon successful completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- Compare and discuss the practical definitions of law, ethics and bioethics.
- Compare and contrast the major types of business relationships found in the health care field.
- Identify the roles of the major health care professionals.
- Describe the legal duties of health care professionals.
- Explain the steps involved in civil, misdemeanor and felony cases.
- Apply knowledge of the duties and responsibilities of health care professional to case studies involving law, ethics and bioethics.
- Apply principles of problem-solving to ethical/bioethical decision-making.
- Discuss major contemporary ethical/bioethical issues using group process and individual reflection.
- Present the results of a bioethics project to the class using verbal and visual presentation techniques.
