| Course Description: |
Applies principles of written, oral, and nonverbal communication. Students write good news, bad news, and persuasive messages in simulated situations using letters, memoranda, and reports. Includes resumes, job application letters, and job interviews. Assignments may require students to work as individuals and groups; perform written and oral assignments. |

| Performance Based Learner Outcomes: |
Upon successful completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- Describe the process of oral, written, and nonverbal communication and identify barriers to effective communication.
- Analyze the similarities and differences between communication inside and outside a company.
- Evaluate communication situations to determine the appropriate transmittal method, organization plan, tone, and word choice to use to achieve the purpose of the communication.
- Demonstrate the ability to critique business documents in order to meet workplace standards.
- Compose and arrange in an acceptable business style, using appropriate technology, the following types of documents:
- Routine/pleasant letters
- Refusal letters
- Persuasive letters
- Memoranda
- Short reports
- Resumes
- Job application letters
- Display habits of regular attendance and meeting deadlines as would be appropriate for worksite standards.
