Course Description: The Oregon State Health Division mandates that all persons serving food to the public are required to take and pass a Food Handler's Certification course.

This workshop was developed by the Marion County Health Department and the Hospitality and Tourism Learning Enterprise at Chemeketa Community College. This course was developed online for busy operators, managers and employees of food services so that they can complete the course as their time permits and do not have to be away from the job.
Performance Based Learner Outcomes: The purpose of the course is for you to understand the fundamentals of sanitation and safety with regard to the service of prepared food to the public. Included in this workshop are the laws, rules, and procedures related to healthy food service and operations at the end of the assigned readings there is an examination. Students must pass the examination with a score of 75% or better.
Course Content: The course content is based upon rules of the Oregon State Health Division. It is hoped that offering this material online, followed by the certification examination, will enhance food handler's proficiency in these subjects and contribute to an overall improvement in food safety and sanitation.
