Course Description: Provides students with tutoring in skills needed to interpret and apply mathematical concepts and complete class assignments. Assists in developing study skills, strategies for independent problem solving, and self-confidence in completing math coursework.
Performance Based Learner Outcomes: Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to: 1.Articulate course assignment and instructor expectations. 2. Identify concerns about completing assignments. 3. Locate and use resources available. 4. Identify and apply study skills and problem-solving strategies for course specific tasks. 5. Use course specific vocabulary to interpret and apply math concepts. 6. Independently perform course specific tasks on assignments and examinations. 7. Communicate confidence in independently repeating performance.
Course Content:
  1. Student attends class
    1. Student receives instruction and assignments from faculty
    2. Student reads assigned textbook and supplements
    3. Student attempts assignment
  2. Student brings assignment and class resources and requests assistance
  3. Student and tutor establish parameters for tutoring session
    1. Student and tutor identify gaps in study skills and abilities to perform tasks, clarify concepts, and complete assignments
    2. Tutor may refer student to another appropriate resource
  4. Student receives assistance in one or more of the following areas
    1. Interpreting a class assignment and instructor expectations
    2. Defining and using vocabulary in assignments
    3. Identifying and explaining course concepts and steps in problem-solving processes
    4. Identifying and applying study skills and problem-solving strategies specific to the task(s)
    5. Identifying misconceptions in thinking and problem solving
    6. Formulating critical thinking and questioning skills for application to other problems.
    7. Locating and using resources needed to complete the required task(s)
    8. Identifying and implementing course specific test taking strategies
    9. Communicating confidence in performing the required task(s)
  5. Student practices and appraises study skills and problem-solving strategies to complete new or additional task(s)
